The Bourns PEL12T-4226F-S1024 rotary encoder was tested today. It works nicely and will require 6 GPIO pins. Technically, we don’t need RGB illumination at this point, but we might change our mind down the road. Therefore, we will design everything as if we were to use it. With 6 pins per encoder and 8 encoders to drive, we will need 48 pins. With only 48 GPIO pins on every Parallella submodule, we will want to drive the encoders with an intermediary multiplexer or microcontroller. More on this later…
