If we go for the xCORE-Analog multi-core microcontroller, we might be able to use 8 cores to drive our 8 channels, and another 8 cores to drive 8 analog sub-modules. If that were to be the case, all that would be needed for interfacing with our analog sub-modules would be the digital-to-analog conversion of CV inputs. This could be achieved by adding one AD5360 per module. At $30 a piece, these components are not cheap, but adding them to the backplane by default would not be more expensive than buying a couple of analog slice boards, which we projected would retail for about $100. In such a context, I think we should go for that simpler design.
