We will mount our 32 analog crosspoint switches using 44 ld PLCC sockets. At 85 cents a piece, it will only add $27.20 to our bill of materials, and it will allow us to manufacture batches of printed circuit boards without having to buy the switches in advance. Also, it will allow users to populate only a subset of the 8 channels with what are the most expensive components of our module. At $16.70 per switch, they contribute $534.40 to the final bill, or a third of it. With that in mind, we can start planning the layout of our backplane and faceplate control plane.
